Hi. Nice presentation. Just getting back into Ham radio after about a 4 decade absence. My initial focus was getting better setup on my sailboat for marine safety enhancement, which came with an old marine Icom M710, so I have taken my new Yaesu FT-710 and set up FLdigi as far as receiving weather FAXs, and established Winlink Express with VARA HF. DX chasing is not my thing, so FT-8 is probably of not great interest. I'll continue learning about Olivia on the web site, and maybe give it a try some time soon. Thanks for this.

April 26th,2024 18:30. I am retired now. I am considering Ham radio and more so Morse code (CW). I love history, but as you mentioned, i too can be drawn into an interest that leads to more questions and on and on. I was introduced to C.B. (11m) radio in the 70's and used it to communicate up to 12 miles across our lakes in northern Saskatchewan (Canada) especially when i had to go out by boat after dark to search for one of our lost customers. We had a Angling Lodge and every year, several folks wouldn't come back by dark. My wife would stay up until 02:00 to keep in radio contact as i and my hired man searched the countless islands and bays hoping to find them. Always aware that our current cell sytems, power grids, etc. are taken for granted and one day we will find ourselves, once again, in need of independant radio operators for vital information. And Ham, in contrast to Citizens Band (C.B.) is legal to use amplifiers to reach further, when skip is not available. Todays internet can give us the world but it doesn't (for the average person) give you a direct connection to someone on the other side. Lastly, as one comment i read in a utube video on CW, Morse Code can keep the aging brain from collecting cobwebs! Amateur Radio Operators often set up at county fairs and take radiograms to send. Try it if you see one. Its a novel thing these days but still works. Better yet become a Amateur. Easy and lots of fun. Great post. Awesome old equipment. Thanx.

I was able to receive this signal with a homemade regenerative receiver that was designed with a narrower bandwidth than most receivers of this type. Noisy, but completely legible.

Tom- Thanks for your efforts in promoting a "conversational" digital mode. I've learned allot from different youtube presentations and alway appreciate the time and willingness to push back from the radio and put together something that can benefit the whole amateur community.
